Solo Road Trip Playlists & Podcasts
Six hours on the M6 is bearable with the right audio. Here is what I listen to as a solo van lifer — music, podcasts, audiobooks, and radio.
Music
- Lo-fi beats: Chill, no lyrics to distract. Good for driving through cities.
- British indie road trip: Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, The Libertines, Two Door Cinema Club. Fits the UK landscape.
- Scottish folk: Julie Fowlis, Capercaillie, The Waterboys. For the NC500 and the Highlands.
- Classical driving: Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi, Ólafur Arnalds. Great for dawn starts and coastal roads.
- 2000s UK garage / DnB: High energy for long motorway slogs.

How to Listen Offline
Download everything before you lose signal. Spotify Premium, BBC Sounds (downloads podcasts), and Audible allow offline listening. In the Scottish Highlands and parts of Wales, you will not have streaming signal for hours.
My One Essential
BBC Radio 6 Music. One station, zero ads, incredible curation, and it makes the miles disappear.
