ULEZ Rules for Campervans
The London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) covers all London boroughs. Here is exactly how it affects campervans.
The Rule
ULEZ operates 24/7, 365 days a year. If your campervan does not meet the emissions standard, you pay £12.50 per day of driving within the zone.
Does Your Van Comply?
- Petrol: Must be Euro 4 or better (roughly 2006 onwards)
- Diesel: Must be Euro 6 or better (roughly 2016 onwards)
- Check your V5C logbook (field 5 for Euro status)
- Check online at tfl.gov.uk/ulez-checker (enter your reg)
Paying the Charge
Pay on the TfL website or via the TfL app. Pay by midnight the third day after travel. Late payment: £160 Penalty Charge Notice (reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days).
Auto Pay
Register for Auto Pay (tfl.gov.uk/autopay). It automatically charges your card each month. You never forget to pay. Highly recommended if you visit London occasionally.
Exemptions
- Historic vehicles (built before 1978) are exempt
- Disabled tax class vehicles
- Some motorhomes built before specific dates (check with TfL)
Avoiding London
Park at Loughton or Brent Cross tube stations. Both are just outside the ULEZ. Tube into central London: 20-40 minutes. Parking: £5-8 per day.
