WiFi Boosters for Campsites
Campsite WiFi is notoriously slow and unreliable. A WiFi booster can transform it.
How WiFi Boosters Work
A WiFi booster (also called a range extender or repeater) picks up the campsite's WiFi signal, amplifies it, and rebroadcasts it inside your van. The result is a stronger, more stable connection.
Best Boosters
| Model | Type | Range | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP-Link RE305 | Plug-in extender | 300m | £20 |
| Netgear EX3700 | Desktop extender | 500m | £35 |
| Alfa Network AWUS036NHA | USB adapter + antenna | 1km+ | £40 |
Installation
- Plug-in extenders (TP-Link, Netgear): plug into a 230v socket in the van (campsite hookup needed)
- USB adapters (Alfa): plug into laptop, attach the antenna to the van roof with a magnetic mount. Runs off USB power (no mains needed)
Alternative: 4G Router
For reliable internet, a dedicated 4G router with an external antenna is better than any WiFi booster. The Netgear Nighthawk M1 (£150) is the gold standard. Insert a data SIM (EE, Vodafone, or Three).
Campsite WiFi Reality
Even with a booster, campsite WiFi is shared by everyone on site. It will always be slower than your own 4G connection. Use a booster only as a backup to a 4G data plan.
