Bath Park and Ride for Campervan Overnight Stays
Bath is one of the most visited cities in the UK for van life, but it has strict parking rules, a Clean Air Zone, and expensive city centre parking. The Park & Ride sites are the best solution. Here is the full guide.
Why Use Bath Park and Ride for Van Life
Bath city centre is a nightmare for campervans. The streets are narrow, the parking is expensive (£20+/day in car parks), and the CAZ charges £9/day for non-compliant vans. The Park & Ride sites are outside the CAZ, have height barriers set at 2.5m (allowing most vans), and cost £5/day including the return bus.
The Three Bath Park and Ride Sites
1. Odd Down Park & Ride (Best for Vans)
- Location: A367 south of the city, near the Odd Down roundabout
- Postcode for satnav: BA2 2PR
- Capacity: 600+ spaces
- Height barrier: 2.5m (no barrier at the main entrance — it is a large open car park)
- Parking cost: £5 per day (pay by phone or at the machine)
- Overnight: Allowed. Many campervans stay here for 1-3 nights. No facilities (no water, no waste disposal).
- Bus frequency: Every 10 minutes, 7am-7pm. Every 20 minutes after 7pm. Last bus around 11:30pm.
- Journey time: 12 minutes to Bath city centre (bus stop at the bottom of Milsom Street) Why it is the best: The largest site, most van-friendly, the 2.5m barrier is fine for all standard campervans (Transit, Ducato, Crafter). It is the busiest site but spaces are rarely full.
2. Lansdown Park & Ride
- Location: A431 north of the city, near the racecourse
- Postcode for satnav: BA1 9BU
- Capacity: 500+ spaces
- Height barrier: 2.5m
- Parking cost: £5 per day
- Overnight: Allowed. Quieter than Odd Down. Fewer vans.
- Bus frequency: Every 15 minutes
- Journey time: 15 minutes to Bath city centre Why choose Lansdown: The view over Bath from the car park is stunning. It is quieter at night than Odd Down. The bus drops you at the Royal Crescent end of the city (good for the Roman Baths and the Circus).
3. Newbridge Park & Ride
- Location: A4 west of the city, near the Newbridge roundabout
- Postcode for satnav: BA1 3NB
- Capacity: 400+ spaces
- Height barrier: 2.5m
- Parking cost: £5 per day
- Overnight: Allowed, but less popular than Odd Down and Lansdown
- Bus frequency: Every 10 minutes
- Journey time: 10 minutes to Bath city centre Why choose Newbridge: Closest to the city centre. Good if you want a quick bus ride. The car park is smaller and fills up on busy days.
Comparison
| Site | Overnight OK | Bus Frequency | Journey Time | View | Quieter at Night |

The CAZ Advantage
All three Park & Ride sites are located outside Baths Clean Air Zone. You can drive a non-compliant van to the Park & Ride without paying the £9/day CAZ charge. Park, catch the bus, and explore Bath without worrying about emissions charges or fines.
Facilities
None of the Park & Ride sites have water, waste disposal, or toilet facilities. You need to be self-contained. The nearest chemical disposal point is at Bath Marina Caravan Park (BA1 5BY, £5 for non-guests). Fresh water is available at the Bath Skyline car park (free, National Trust, daytime only).
The "Overnight Parking" Rule
Bath and North East Somerset Council allows overnight parking at the Park & Ride sites for campervans. The rules: you must pay the £5 fee every day. You cannot stay for more than 48 hours continuously. You cannot set up chairs, awnings, or barbecues. You must not leave rubbish.
Tips for Staying at Bath Park and Ride
- Arrive after 5pm. The bus service reduces, but the car park empties out. You get first pick of spaces.
- Park at the far end of the car park. Away from the bus stop and the road. Quieter, less headlight glare.
- Catch the last bus into town. Have dinner at a restaurant (try The Circus Restaurant or The Olive Tree), catch the last bus back at 11:30pm.
- Leave by 9am. The car park fills up by 9:30am on weekends. If you are still there, you are taking a paying commuters space.
- Stock up at Sainsburys Local. There is one at the Odd Down roundabout (BA2 2PR), 5-minute walk from the car park.
Verdict
Odd Down Park & Ride is the best van life base for visiting Bath. £5/day including bus travel, outside the CAZ, van-friendly, and overnight stays are allowed. Park up, bus in, explore Bath, bus back, sleep. The cheapest and easiest way to visit one of the UKs most beautiful cities.
